Entered into rest on Monday, July 17, 2023, Doyle H. Brewer, 92.

Doyle was born November 15, 1930 in Dresden, Tennessee. He entered the military service in 1948 and was assigned to the 24th Infantry Division in Japan. Upon commencement of the Korean War (Conflict), he was sent to Korea with the 34th Infantry Regiment of the 24th Infantry Division. While in Korea his Company received extremely heavy casualties. In June 1951, he rotated from Korea to Camp Gordon, Georgia, while there, he met and married Patricia Marshall of Augusta in June 1952, he was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army.

MSGT Doyle reenlisted in the U.S. Army in August 1958 with an assignment to Fort Lewis, Washington, 4th Infantry Division. During the remainder of his career, he served at Camp Darby Italy, Fort Gordon, Georgia, Fort Jackson, South Carolina, Mainz Germany, and in Rotterdam the Netherlands at the US Army Transportation Terminal group for Europe and two tours in Vietnam. Ultimately, he returned to Fort Gordon, Georgia for honorable retirement on July 1, 1975.

Decorations and Medals during MSGT Brewer’s career included the National Defense Service Medal with OLC, Army of Occupation Medal (Japan), Korean Service Medal with 3 bronze service stars, Bronze Star Medal (2d OLC), Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 4 bronze service stars, Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), 5 O/S Bars, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Army Commendation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal. As well as the United National Service Medal, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, Meritorious Unit Commendation, and the Presidential Unit Citation.

In Doyle’s civilian occupation, he held positions with YOH Security as a Security Supervisor at Mack Trucks World Headquarter in Allentown, PA. He later transferred to Shoreham Nuclear Power Station as the Locksmith and Equipment Administrator. After four years, he resigned and relocated to Hinesville, GA outside of Fort Stewart where he opened Coastal Locksmith.

Family members include his wife: Jane of Savannah, GA; sons: Marshall (Rachel) of Evans, GA and John of North Augusta, SC; daughters: Susan Satterfield (Michael) of Evans, GA, Angela Ashe (Charles) of Edgefield, SC, Hazel Hermann of Thompson, GA and daughter: Annette Howard (George) of Fleming, GA; 16 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas Brewer and Mattie Brewer of Martin, TN.

The family would like to thank Enhabit Hospice and the army of caregivers God sent our way to care for Doyle in our home. We pray God blesses each of you.

The funeral service will be held Friday, July 21, 2023 at 4:00 P.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Ryan Busbee officiating. Interment will be on Monday, July 24, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. in Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
