Doyle Thomas, Sr.
Evans, GA- Mr. Doyle P. Thomas, Sr., 91, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2021 at UH/Summerville Hospital after a short illness.
Doyle was born at home in Palatka, Florida to the late Alfred and Elizabeth Thomas.
He is proceeded in death by two brothers and sister-in-laws, Oliver P. and Ann Thomas (South Dakota) and Karl W. and Millie (Florida). Also, an infant son Steven Craig Thomas.
Doyle is survived by his wife of 70 years Frances Swilley Thomas, his 4 children Brenda Thomas Mathews (Don) (Augusta, GA), Mary Thomas Scott, Sandra Thomas (Evans, Ga.), and Doyle P. Thomas, Jr. “Tommy” (Angela) (Adams Run, SC.). As well as 6 grandchildren, Mickey Williford-Chavarria (German), Kelly Williford-Fanning (Dustin), Shaun Thomas (Taylor), Chelsea Mathews, Blake Mathews (Brittney) and Trey Dawkins (Jackie). And 9 great-grandchildren.
Doyle attended Palatka High School in Palatka, Fla. He served in the Army National Guard. Doyle worked at the Georgia Pacific paper mill and several propane gas companies. Upon retirement he returned to his hometown of Palatka, Florida. He spent his retirement years enjoying renovating the family home, attending Palatka First Presbyterian Church, working with Palatka Habitat for Humanity and traveling with family and life long friends. The past 8 years Doyle and Frances moved back to Augusta to be closer to their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
The family thanks the Columbia County Gold Cross that assisted Doyle the last couple of years. As well as nurses, Natasha (Stevens Park) and Christina (UH/Summerville). Also, speech therapist CeeCee (Stevens Park) and A.J, (Stevens Park). Along with all other health care providers.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that contributions be made to Palatka Habitat for Humanity at 2506 Crill Avenue, Palatka, Florida 32177.
The graveside service will be private.
