Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Saturday, April 11, 2009, at Isle of Palms, SC, Fred Marion Sims, DDS, 70, husband of Barbara Woodham Sims.
Dr. Sims was a native of Augusta, GA, son of the late Fred Puckett Sims and Marian Whitaker Sims. He was a graduate of the Academy of Richmond County in 1956, attended Augusta Junior College, the University of Georgia where he was a member of Chi Phi Fraternity, Emory University Pre-Dental School and graduated from Emory University School of Dentistry in 1963. He entered the U.S. Army as a Captain at Fort Dix, NJ and returned to Augusta in 1965 to begin private dental practice until his retirement in 2008 with offices in Augusta and Wadley, GA. Dr. Sims was a member of the Georgia Dental Association, American Dental Association, and the Eastern District Dental Society. He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, the Augusta Country Club, the Augusta Golf Association, the Green Boundary Club. Dr. Sims enjoyed golf, hunting and fishing.
Family members in addition to his wife include his sons: Fred Marion Sims, Jr. (Tricia), Craig Powell Sims (Monica) and grandchildren: Madeline Hart Sims, Franklin Powell Sims, Harper Louise Sims and Anna Marion Sims.
Graveside funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at 3:00 P.M. at Westover Memorial Park with Rev. John Pinson officiating. Pallbearers will be Leeman Bennett, Don Grantham, Forrest Hensley, Dr. William James, Duncan Johnson, John Lee, Lee Parks, Dr. Thomas Saul, Roger Sidener, Craig Wardlaw, O.T. Fulghum, Hogarth Sandeford, William Loflin, Col. Myron Harrington, Miller Byne and Ernest Dinkins. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Augusta Golf Association, the Wallace Group and Par Five. Visitation will follow the service at the home of Tricia and Fred Sims, Jr. at 1308 Glenn Ave., Augusta, GA.
