Dr. Ramon Walters

Dr. Douglas Ramon Walters (Ramon), 91, beloved husband of Ann R. Walters, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 1st, 2023.

Ramon was born in Augusta. As a child, he loved visiting his grandparents in Alexander, Georgia and many of his beloved stories over the years were of the happy memories he made there. As a teenager, he was a lifeguard at his family’s swimming pool, Lombards Pond. It was there he met the love of his life, Ann. They were married in 1956 after he graduated from Emory University School of Dentistry. He enlisted in the Army Dental Corps and was stationed both at Fort Benning and Fort Sam Houston. He practiced dentistry in Augusta for 42 years and loved his patients dearly.

Ramon loved traveling. He took his family on many cross country road trips and traveled abroad but his fondest memories were the weeks spent with his family every summer at New Smyrna Beach, Florida. He always enjoyed hunting and fishing. He taught many of his grandchildren to drive and swim, and always was available to offer wisdom. He loved cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs and was so happy to finally see them win the National Championship last year.

The most important decision he ever made was to trust the Lord Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in his early 20s while in dental school. He served as an elder at Bethany Bible Chapel for many years and with his wife currently attended North Augusta Bible Chapel. His greatest desire was that people would come to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Ramon was predeceased by his son, Douglas Walters Jr., parents, George Ervin and Louise Walters, and his dear brother Dr. Gordon Walters. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Ann R. Walters; His daughter, Andrea Timmerman (Ben), Augusta, Georgia; His son, Glenn Walters (Vashti), Oak Ridge, Tennessee; grandchildren Hannah Cofer (Trey), Rachel Timmerman, Clayton Timmerman, David Timmerman, Amelia Walters, Grant Walters, Connie Walters, James Walters, and his great-granddaughter Madeline Timmerman. He also was loved by his nieces, nephews, cousins, and patients.

Pallbearers will be Clayton Timmerman, David Timmerman, Grant Walters, Trey Cofer, Dr. Les Walters, and John Blair.

The family would also like the thank his nephew, Dr Les Walters, for all of the love and care he has shown him over the years.

Funeral Services will be at 2 pm on Friday, January 6th in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment at Westover Memorial Park.
