Dr. Thomas Warren Ramage

Augusta, GA – Dr. Thomas Warren Ramage, husband of the late Jane Terry Ramage, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2016. He was born on Christmas Day 1929 to the late Daniel and Melba Ramage in Little Rock, Arkansas. His family moved to Kentucky and he graduated from Holmes High School in Covington, Class of 1948. He was the first person in his family to attend college and received his Bachelor degree from the University of Kentucky and a Master of Divinity from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary where he met and later married his wife, Jane, of 51 years. While completing his Doctorate at the University of Kentucky, he was the pastor of several Baptist churches and also taught at the University of Cincinnati. Eventually he moved his growing family to Augusta, where he began his 24 year career as a history professor at Augusta College. After retirement, he stayed busy tinkering in his garage, backpacking, canoeing and, of course, playing his beloved game of golf. His affections for the game were never well reciprocated. As a member of Forest Hills Golf Club, he played regularly with Val’s Group and the Geezers over the years. He was a member of the Hill Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School for many years and attended the Fellowship Club.

Tom is survived by his four daughters and their husbands: Alicia and Carlos Markyna, Rebecca and Joel Cantrell, Beth and Scott Breshears and Amy and Donald Wheeler. Also left to mourn him are his nine grandchildren: Marissa and her husband Randy Powers, Carlos and his wife Lindsay Markyna, Colleen Markyna, Zachary Breshears, Hannah Breshears, Matthew Cantrell, Jackson Wheeler, Avery Jane Wheeler and Jacob Cantrell, as well as a new great-granddaughter, Charlotte Liv Markyna. Tom is also survived by his sister, Bettye Joyce Slaughter and her children, Michael and Carolyn Slaughter, and Gayle and Lew Clyburn.

A memorial service will be at The Hill Baptist Church, 2165 Kings Way, on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 2 pm.

The family would like to thank the staff at Harrington Park Health and Rehabilitation, Gentiva Hospice, and Family Care, Inc. They took great care of him in his final days.

Donations may be made to Gentiva Home Health, 2826 Hillcreek Drive, Suite A, Augusta, GA 30909 or a charity of one’s choice.
