Dr. William (Bill) Howard Wiseman
Augusta, GA- Dr. William (Bill) Howard Wiseman passed away peacefully on September 6, 2013 at home surrounded by his loved ones. Bill was born May 11, 1929 in Chillicothe, Ohio. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Ada Wiseman, brother Hobart Wiseman and sister Mary Woods. Bill is survived by his wife of 63 years, Patricia Hinkle Wiseman, daughter, Elizabeth Ann Wiseman (Augusta, GA), son, Steven and Lee Wiseman (Birmingham, AL), brother Glenn Ray Wiseman (Chillicothe, OH), sister Ruth Hickman (Chillicothe, OH) and grandson William Mason Wiseman (currently serving in the United States Air Force).
Bill graduated from Chillicothe HS in 1947. He received a BS in Chemical Engineering from Ohio State University in 1953 and MS and PhD from The Institute of Paper Chemistry in Appleton, WI in 1958. Bill received the Westbrooke Steele medal for excellence of his doctoral thesis. Bill’s working career spanned over 30 years in the paper manufacturing business. Bill served as Technical Director at West Virginia Pulp and Paper in Covington, VA (1958-1961), VP and Manager of Operations at Brunswick (GA) Pulp and Paper (1961-1970) and VP and General Manager at Continental Forest Products in Augusta, GA (1970-1985). Bill was instrumental in the design, engineering, installation and operation of the Augusta No. 3 paper machine. Bill also worked for Federal Paperboard in Augusta, GA, Simons-Eastern Engineering in Decatur, GA and as an independent consultant until his full retirement in 1990. Bill served on the Board of Directors for Georgia Railroad Bank, United Way of Augusta, Augusta Radiation Therapy Center, Junior Achievement of Augusta, Georgia Business and Industry Association. He was also Trustee for the Augusta College Foundation and Chairman of the United Negro College Fund.
In retirement, Bill devoted much of his time to traveling and gardening. He was a member of the Augusta Rose Society and served as Editor of Augusta Rose Society Monthly News Bulletin for many years. He was a Consulting Rosarian, Master Gardener, and a member of the American Rose Society. Bill loved OSU Buckeye football, his Airedales and roses. He was a member of Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church.
A memorial service will be held at Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church on September 9, 2013 at 11:00 am. A reception will be held in the Reid Fellowship Hall immediately following the service. Interment will be at a later date at Grandview Cemetery in Chillicothe, OH.
