Dr. William N. Agostas
December 18, 1922 - September 26, 2009
AUGUSTA, GA. – Entered into rest Saturday, September 26, 2009, at his residence, Dr. William Nicholas Agostas, 86, husband of the late Josephine Rhodes Agostas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mersine Mamakos Agostas and Nick Agostas, and brother, Emanuel N. Agostas.
Dr. Agostas was born in Augusta December 18, 1922. He graduated from the Academy of Richmond County, the Junior College of Augusta, and the University of Georgia School of Medicine (MCG). He completed his internship at the Medical College of Virginia and residency in Augusta. Serving as a captain in the United States Army, he was stationed in Orleans, France. On his return to Augusta, he began the private practice of Internal Medicine. He was certified by The American Board of Internal Medicine and a member of The American College of Physicians.
Dr. Agostas was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, the President’s Club of the Medical College of Georgia and Augusta State University, the Richmond County Medical Society, the Beech Island Agricultural Club, and the Augusta Country Club.
Family members include his son: William N. Agostas, Jr. of Augusta; daughter: Eve Agostas Garren and husband Crane of Augusta; grandchildren: William N. (Nick) Agostas III of Columbia, SC, Haley Rae Agostas of Charleston, SC, Samantha Greer Groves and husband Shane of Macon, GA, William Crane Garren III and great-grandson: William N. (Will) Agostas IV.
A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, October 1, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 953 Telfair Street, Augusta, GA 30901 with Rev. Father Vasile Bitere celebrant. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Nick Agostas, Crane Garren, Shane Groves, Pen Mayson, Phillip Thevaos, and Frank Calamas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 953 Telfair Street, Augusta (30901), the University Health Care Foundation, 2100 Central Avenue, Augusta (30904), or the Medical College of Georgia Inc., 1021 15th Street Suite 6, Augusta (30901).
