Augusta, GA – Elsie Gayle Wooten McGee, 71, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2018. She was born on May 29, 1947 in Oil City, Pennsylvania to the late David Levi and Viola (Marshall) Wooten.

Mrs. McGee is survived by her beloved husband of 52 years: W.D. “Buster” McGee Jr.; their children: Kenneth Marshall McGee (Jamie), Christopher “Todd” McGee (Amy), Kimberly McGee Hall (Randy); her brother: David L. Wooten Jr. (Susan.) She was a true “Gem” to grandchildren: Stella and Kristin Fleming, Hannah McGee, Taylor and Avery McGee, Carson and Caroline Hall.

In addition to raising her children, Gayle was a devoted educator. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Augusta College, her Masters and Educational Specialist degrees from the University of South Carolina. She began teaching first grade in 1976. She then became an Assistant Principal, later serving as Principal of Glenn Hills Elementary and Westside High School. She was a long time member of St. Mark and Wesley United Methodist Churches. Gayle spread joy and happiness wherever she went! She was beloved by all of her students, parents, teachers and many friends.

Memorial services will be Friday, November 9, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors. Rev. Greg Porterfield is officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer/ Dementia Association, 106 SRP Dr Suite A, Evans, GA 30809.
