Augusta, GA – Mr. Earl W. Lewis, 82, entered into rest Saturday, June 29, 2013.

Mr. Lewis was a lifelong resident of Augusta. He was in the Navy for 4 years and served on the USS Castor in the Pacific, Japan, and Korea. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia where he received his BA in Public Health and loved his Bulldogs. He received his Masters in Public Health from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill. Mr. Lewis retired after 30 years as the District Administrator for East Central Health District. He was a member of the George Walton Lodge 699, Scottish Rite Temple, and Augusta Elks Lodge where he was the past treasurer, CSRA Shag Club, Forest Hills Golf Club, Bartram Trail Golf Club, and the Richmond County Medical Reserve Corps. Mr. Lewis loved the game of golf and enjoyed shag dancing. He also enjoyed attending Victory Baptist Church.

Family members include daughter: Desiree Woods and husband Bill; son: Dean Lewis and wife Ellie; grandchildren: Will Magill, Zach Magill and wife Julie, Ben Magill, Thomas Woods and wife Mallory, Maggie Woods, Katie Lewis, Cody Lewis; sisters: Ann R. Walters and husband Raymond, Faye L. Cundey; and a brother: George A. Lewis. He was preceded in death by his parents: Lillian Bell; George W. and Lizetta Lewis.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Chris Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Liberty United Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Will, Zach, and Ben Magill, Chris Gay, Ian Peckel, Brannon Cundey, and Dean Childress. Honorary pallbearer will be Jim Wilson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2607 Commons Blvd., Augusta, GA 30909.
