Evans, GA – Mr. Edgar Martin Sweat, Jr., 96, entered with joy into the presence of his Heavenly Father after a mercifully short illness on December 14, 2021.
Born in Laurens, SC, he moved around Georgia and South Carolina with his family growing up in Soperton and Vidalia Georgia as well as Greenville SC. He left home to serve in the South Pacific with the US Navy during WW II. Afterwards he returned to Greenville to marry the girl next door, Helen Farmer Sweat. They were married for 59 years. He owned and operated Sweat Printing Company in Atlanta and Douglasville Georgia until his retirement. He moved to Augusta in 1989 and enjoyed many years volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, Golden Harvest Food Bank and participating in mission trips as well as serving his church family at Warren Baptist Church. That is where God blessed him with a second wonderful wife, Martha. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
He was preceded in death by wives: Helen Farmer Sweat, Martha Martin Sweat and brothers Jerome Sweat and Charles Sweat. Those surviving include his children: Edra Adams (Robb), Keith Sweat (Ellen),Craig Sweat (Mindy); stepchildren: Pat Harris (Gerold), Steven Martin (Julia), grandchildren: Nathan Adams (Jamie), Sam Adams (Tammy), Aaron Adams (Blair), Alison Sweat, Annie Sweat, Zack Sweat (Michelle); great grandchildren: Andrew, Anna Beth, Abigail, Matthew, Oliver and Mary Helen as well as his brother Lowell Sweat (Mary), sister Eleanor Burke (Bill) and many loving nieces, nephews and step grandchildren and his very special friend Lavina Marlow.
A graveside service will be on Friday, December 17, 2021, at 3:00 P.M. at Westover Memorial Park with Dr. David McKinley officiating. A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 18, 2021, at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel at Warren Baptist Church with Rev. Dave Dillard officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday morning prior to the service from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M.
