Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Monday, August 2, 2015, Mrs. Edith Julia Ellis, 89, wife of 69 years to the late Mr. William J. “Bill” Ellis.

Mrs. Ellis was born in Evansville, Indiana October 12, 1925. She was married to Mr. Ellis October 20, 1945. She received her nursing degree from Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in 1946. She moved to Augusta with her family in 1950 and worked in Labor and Delivery at University Hospital from 1955 until 1967. Mrs. Ellis was an active loyal member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in North Augusta. She taught Sunday School and was a Circle Member. Mrs. Ellis helped with the Girl Scouts. She loved her family, puzzle and card games, sewing, yard work and cooking.

Family members include children: Karen Gayle Douglas (Carl), William Kent Ellis (Susie), Paul Gary Ellis (Kathy), and Julia Elizabeth Collier; five grandchildren: Matthew Carl Douglas (Ashley), William John Ellis (Cheryl), Mary Caroline Dye (Barry) of Evans, Nicole Collier and Logan Collier; eight great grandchildren: Mason, Jaxson and Elizabeth Douglas, Carter and John Ellis, Charlotte and Nora Dye and Amelia Edith Russo (due in December). She was preceded in death by her parents: Henry Oscar Mahrenholz and Otlilia “Tillie” Ebelt; brother: Arthur Mahrenholz; sisters: Ruth Craft and Lillian Crowley; and her grandson: Kevin R. Douglas.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Patrick Darnell officiating. The family will receive friends beginning Wednesday morning at 10:30 A.M. until the time of service at the church.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church at 1002 Carolina Ave. North Augusta, SC 29841.
