Surrounded by his loving family, Edward H. Selby Jr. passed away peacefully on February 24, 2024. Ed was preceded in death by the love of his life, Sharron Vaughn Selby. He is survived by his children: Ed III (Talisa), David (Katrina), Bryan (Deanna), and Leigh Savage (Danny), stepsons Lyle (Amber) and Travis (Angela), and grandchildren Thomas, Alexandria, Madison, Caeden, Liam, Logan, Savannah, and Quinn, as well as the loving, giving Vaughn family - his brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
Born September 12, 1940, in Savannah, GA to the late Edward H. Selby Sr. and Delle Selby, Ed was a longtime resident of Augusta and Little Switzerland, NC. He graduated from the Academy of Richmond County and earned a degree in Civil Engineering from his beloved Georgia Tech in 1963, where he was an active member in Delta Upsilon and ROTC.
Immediately after college, Ed was commissioned a lieutenant in the US Army Corps of Engineers and was stationed in Berlin, Germany. He returned to Augusta in 1965 where he had a long and successful career as an engineer and executive vice president at Gary Concrete Products. If you have ever driven across a bridge in Atlanta or Savannah, you were likely benefiting from his passion for engineering and problem-solving.
After Gary Concrete, Ed enjoyed an encore career with Southern Aggregates, Maner Building Supplies, and Howard Lumber. During this latter career, he was a respected mentor to many, helping launch numerous careers and making lifelong friends.
Ed was a proud Episcopalian and had a passion for his family, the home he designed and built in Little Switzerland, NC, gardening, golf, jigsaw puzzles, traveling, and, most enjoyable for his family, cooking.
The family will accept visitors at 10 am on Friday, March 1, 2024, at the Church of the Good Shepherd, with a memorial service at 11:00 am and a reception immediately following the service. Memorials may be made to Church of the Good Shepherd: 2230 Walton Way, Augusta, GA 30904 or Trinity Episcopal Church: 15 Hemlock Ave. Spruce Pine, NC 28777.
