Edwin "Eddie" Glover Tanner

Augusta, GA – Edwin “Eddie” Glover Tanner passed away peacefully Friday, January 6, 2023 at home surrounded by loved ones; she was 81 years old. She was the daughter of the late Carlton Calhoun Glover and Sarah Janette Glover.

Eddie was a long-time member of Mann Memorial United Methodist Church in Augusta, Georgia, where she was active in the children’s ministry which consisted of leading Children’s Church, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was also an active volunteer with ‘Operation Buddy”, an outreach ministry for hospitalized veterans.

Eddie was born in Greens Cut, Georgia and then moved to Augusta, where she attended the Academy of Richmond County, graduating in 1958, a year ahead of her class. Following high school, she attended a local business college. Her career consisted of positions with Bordon’s Dairy, Augusta Planning Commission, Southern Finance, Insurance Services and S.R.P Federal Credit Union.

Eddie was a ray of sunshine. She never met a stranger and always saw the best in everyone. To know Eddie was to love her. Eddie loved her church, her family, her lifelong friends and loved making people smile. She enjoyed spending time with her family, attending church and church functions, reading, watching tv crime dramas and Perry Mason.

Eddie is survived by her daughter: Rhettina “Tina” Janette Davis; grandchildren: Jessica Laurel Tanner, Brianna Lynn Davis, Tanner Carlton Davis; sisters: Elizabeth “Betty” Janette Armstrong (the late William “Billy”), Sarah Lillian Bailey (the late Lawrence “Larry); brothers: John Carlton Glover (June), William “Buddy” Fred Glover (Kay) and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Eddie is pre-deceased by her sister Edna Ruth Stroud (the late Donald).

The Family give special thanks to Maxine “Marana” Beard, her end-of-life companion aka ‘her best friend”, the Amazing Staff of Gentiva Hospice, Nurse Ian Moores, C.N.A Katie McGee, Social Worker Jeremy McCoy, Chaplain Rick Boland, Pastor Sonny Mason, and those who offered prayers, guidance, and support.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 12:00 P.M. at Mann - Mize Memorial United Methodist Church, 2705 Milledgeville Road, Augusta, Georgia with Rev. Scott Parrish and Rev. Sonny Mason officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
