Augusta, GA – Elaine Fortner Butler of Heather Drive, entered into rest May 10, 2012. Born in Jefferson County, GA, August 19, 1930. She was preceded in death by her parents, M.D. Fortner, of Wadley, GA and Ruth Meadows Fortner Bullock of Charleston, SC and by her twins James Wasden of Somers Point, NJ and Jere Wasden Lewis of Louisville, GA. She is survived by two sisters Joan Fulghum of Augusta, GA and Bobby Burke of Charleston, SC, her grandchildren Tammy Wasden Sintay (Ryan), Summerville, SC, Wendy Wasden Franklin (Mike) of Somers Point, NJ, Jonathan Lewis (Margaret), Joy Lewis Mendez (Alberto) of Atlanta and Matthew Lewis of Kansas, and great grandchildren Carly Sintay, Summerville, SC, Samuel, Benjamin and Charley Lewis and Camila Mendez all of Atlanta. Nieces include Laura Carwile of Warner Robins, GA, Sabrina Cooper of Iowa, Nicole Curtis of Charleston, SC, and Leah Carwile of Atlanta, and a special son-in-law Charles Lewis and his wife Susanne of Louisville, GA. Elaine was a long time member of The Louisville United Methodist Church and had recently joined Trinity on The Hill Methodist Church in Augusta.

Elaine had a varied an interesting life. She was the center of interest in her small town of Wadley, GA when her fraternal twins were among the first to be born there. She was a model for L’Oreal hair products, guest star on the TV program To Tell The Truth, as the real stunt driver with the Ken Butler Crash Drivers. Her husband was a well known stunt driver who once owned and operated the Atlantic City Speedway. Elaine often performed and had several pictures and articles written about her career as a performer, she is referred to as the GA peach in most of them. She enjoyed her grandchildren, was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles.

She lived an exciting life and will be sadly missed by her family. A private memorial service celebrating her life will be held at a later date. Anyone desiring may make memorial contributions in her honor to either Methodist Church.
