Augusta, Ga – Elizabeth Ann Barnes passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 29, 2021 at Lake Crossing Health Center surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Barnes, wife of the late David N. Barnes Sr., daughters: Teresa Ann Barnes (Charlie), Jennifer Lee Hobbs (Dennis), Barbara Lynn Prather (Stuart), Beatrice Gail Snipes (Randy); sons: David Newton Barnes, Jr (Karla), Robert McCall Barnes; daughter in law: Paige Barnes and daughter in law: Janis Edwards; grandchildren: Jordan David Hobbs (Ashlyn), Kristen Lee Stovall (Grant), David Newton Barnes III (Lily), Stuart Holmes Prather IV (KC), Elizabeth Ashton Hobbs, Alexis Raye McMillan (Ian), McCall Parrish Montgomery (Nathan) Britton Ann Austin (Korey), Laura Elizabeth Snipes, Randall Ty Snipes (Emily), Delaine Elizabeth Barnes; great grandchildren: Rhett David Hobbs, Cali Raye McMillan, Camille Elizabeth Hobbs, Tucker Stewart Hobbs, Bette Ann Prather, Florence Elizabeth Stovall, Asher Michael McMillan; brother: Dr. Robert A. Parrish (Dot); beloved neighbors and friends: Wanda and Jamie Reese.
Ann was a native and lifelong resident of Augusta. She was a graduate of Tubman High School for Girls and earned a Bachelors Degree in Music and Education from the University of Georgia, where she graduated in 1954. Ann was an amazing teacher who positively impacted the lives of countless children. She was always so thankful God had given her the gift and privilege of teaching and loving children. She retired after 30 years of teaching Kindergarten with the Richmond County School System. She was a member of Damascus Baptist Church, St. Mark United Methodist Church and taught pre-school at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. To know Ann was to love her, as she greeted everyone with a warm smile and open arms. God blessed Ann with a true servant’s heart, as her greatest joy was giving and doing for others. Even in the midst of her health challenges, her faith in her Lord and Savior remained steadfast and resolute. She was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who considered her family her most cherished earthly treasure. The family would like to thank Lake Crossing Health Center and Southeast Hospice for their love and care of Ann.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son with Dr. David Stockton and Rev. Keith Burrow officiating. Burial will follow at Westover Memorial Park.
