Elizabeth Ryan
Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Sunday, October 23, 2022, Mrs. Elizabeth Jane Ray Ryan, 97, wife of the late Mr. James Patrick Ryan.
Family members include her children: James P. Ryan, Jr (Diana), David M. Ryan (Carol), Lois Ryan Fulcher (Billy), Dorothy Ryan Langdon (Stephen), Sheila Patricia Ryan, Paul Bernard Ryan (Larry Briscoe); eleven grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She is also survived by her brother, Arthur Ray and her sister, Carolyn Halter. In addition to her husband, Elizabeth was preceded in death by her grandson William Raborn Fulcher.
Elizabeth was born to the late Irwin and Alice Ray in Pittsburgh, PA. She was the third of six children. Her first job was Civil Service, accounting and issuing War Bonds. At the age of 19 she flew to Alamogordo N.M. to marry Jimmy Ryan where he was stationed as a bombardier on a B29. And so began her life as a military wife. Elizabeth was one of the first four military wives to be sent to the Azore Islands by the US government. In addition to the Azores Elizabeth was also sent to Texas, Kansas, Pennsylvania, Japan, Georgia, Philippines, and Viginia before retiring to Augusta, Georgia.
Elizabeth enjoyed spending time with her family. She was happiest when all six of her children were at home. Her hobbies included traveling, tending to her outdoor plants and flowers, playing the organ, crewel embroidery, league bowling and putting puzzles together with her late husband.
Visitation will be at 2:00 P.M. at Hephzibah United Methodist Church, 4431 Brothersville Rd, Hephzibah, GA on Thursday, November 10, 2022 followed by funeral services at 3:00 P.M. officiated by the Reverend Gary McWhorter. Interment will be private at a later time.
