Mrs. Emma Mae Turner Norville, 92, retired to her heavenly home on Tuesday, February 26th, 2013.

Mrs. Norville is preceded in death by the love of her life, Thurman S. Norville, Sr., her parents, Duffie H. Turner and Alma O. Turner, a sister, Dorothy Wrye and a brother, Robert Turner.

Emma Mae was born in Screven County, Georgia on May 4th, 1920. She attended Millen High School, graduated from the University of Georgia, University Hospital School of Nursing, Augusta, in 1942. She served as an Army nurse during WWII and was stationed at Station Hospital, Camp Gordon in Augusta, Georgia. After military service, she worked for the late, Dr. William S. Boyd and Dr. Glenn Owen. She continued her nursing profession with Children’s Medical Services until her retirement at the age of 74. She enjoyed her time at CMS working in the various pediatric specialty clinics of orthopedics, cardiology, and allergy. She especially enjoyed traveling to rural clinics to help provide services to those in need.

Emma Mae was a devoted Christian. She loved the Lord and served Him all of her life. She especially loved her church family. She was a charter member of St. Mark United Methodist Church, having joined on October 29th, 1950. Emma Mae sang in the choir for many years and enjoyed time spent with the Young at Heart group. She was a member of the French Bible Class and also the Leila Cofer Circle.

Emma Mae is survived by her son, Thurman S. Norville, Jr. and his wife, Nora. She is also survived by three grand-daughters, Alice Funsch, and her husband Nicholas, Cassidy Bentley and her husband, Reed, Emmie Park and her husband, Alex, great grand-daughters, Martha Funsch, Casey Bentley, Eliza Park, and a niece, Shirley Hopper and her husband Wayne Hopper.

A service of celebration will be held at St. Mark United Methodist Church on Saturday March the 2nd at 2:00 p.m., Reverend Charles Broome and Reverend Wayne Hopper officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held for Emma Mae on Friday, March 1st from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Thomas Poteet and Sons Funeral Home on Davis Road in Augusta.

Pallbearers will be Robert Norville, Sr., Robert Norville, Bobbie Norville, Nicholas Funsch, Reed Bentley, Alex Park, John Teasley, and Len Collins. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Leila Cofer Circle and French Bible Class.

Memorial contributions can be made to St. Mark United Methodist at 2367 Washington Road, Augusta, GA 30904.

The family would also like to thank Trinity Hospice for their care and also a very special thanks to Mrs. Emma’s new friend, Orlando Williams. Orlando’s attention to Emma was truly an example of love and Christ centered servant hood.
