Eugene Baston

Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Tuesday, February 14, 2017, Mr. Eugene “Gene” Daniel Baston, 79 husband of the late Carol D. Baston.

Mr. Baston was a loving and devoted husband and father. He was a veteran of the National Guard. Mr. Baston graduated from Georgia Teachers College in Statesboro with a bachelor’s degree in history. He started his career as Assistant Superintendent of Augusta National Golf Club and also held stints as Superintendent for Westlake Country Club, and for Arnold Palmer at Bay Hill Country Club. He was past President of both the Golf Course Superintendents Association of Georgia and America. The latter part of his career was spent in China, overseeing the construction and development of golf courses across Asia.

Family members in addition to his late wife include, son: Chip Baston of Augusta; daughter: Tanya Steinlage of Boynton Beach, FL; four grandchildren, three great grandchildren and many other loving family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, O’Neal and Eunice Baston and brothers, Claude and Allen Baston.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 11:30 AM at Westover Memorial Park with Rev. Bobby Baston officiating.
