Mrs. Evelyn Spires Daniel, 97, of Evans, GA, entered into rest with family and friends at her bedside on Sunday, January 8, 2012 after a brief illness. She is a native of Augusta, GA and one of ten children of the late Alexander Stephens Spires and Etta Hamilton Spires. Her husband Moye Leo Daniel, Sr. and her oldest son John Brady Daniel preceded Mrs. Daniel in death. She was a graduate of Tubman High School in Augusta, GA and work many years as a salesperson at Frank Goldberg’s, a dress and specialty store for women, in downtown Augusta before starting Daniel Feed and Seed Company with her husband Moye. Mrs. Daniel was a founding member of the Fleming Homemakers Club, a member of the American Needlepoint Guild and the American Embroidery Guild. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Evans, GA; she was also a long-time member of Hillcrest and Curtis Baptist Churches in Augusta and Hopeful Baptist Church in Blythe, GA.
Mrs. Daniel is survived by: her sister Agatha “Gay” Spires Coursey; her sons Moye L. Daniel, Jr., wife Marion and David A. Daniel, wife Rochelle; daughter-in-law Wanda Daniel; grandsons John Preston Daniel, Richard Brady Daniel, Thomas Bernard Daniel, Moye Leo Daniel, III, Christopher Dorson Daniel, Titus Moye Daniel and Christopher Wayne Coomes; granddaughters Jennie Daniel Edelstein and Allison Wright Hixon; fourteen great-grandchildren, one great, great-granddaughter and several much-loved nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, 12 January 2012 at 11 a.m. at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors, followed by a graveside service at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 2700 Deans Bridge Road, Augusta, GA 30906, 706-790-1185. Reverend Greg Porterfield will officiate the services.
The pallbearers will be Harold Gracen, Preston Daniel, Richard Daniel, Thomas Daniel, Christopher Daniel and Titus Daniel.
