Forest Schoolfield

Augusta, GA – Forest James Schoolfield, 93, entered into rest the late evening of Thursday, January 28, 2021.

Forest was a long-time resident of Augusta, Georgia, having moved to the area with her family in 1958. Though Forest had a 30-year career as the law librarian for the City of Augusta and Richmond County, she was probably best known for operating a small gift and flower shop on Stevens Creek Road called Hodge Podge West. Over the years, hundreds of locals shopped with Forest and became acquainted with the kind and big-hearted store owner.

Forest was a strong woman of faith, professing her belief in the glorious redeeming power of Jesus Christ, and imparting that same faith to her family. A devoted member of her home church, National Hills Baptist Church, she led a Sunday school class of her peers and could always be found in the middle row pews during Sunday morning service.

Forest so loved her family. She is survived by her children, Bill Schoolfield, Sherry Elijah (David), and Cathy Silman (Buster). Forest was preceded in death by her son, Jim Schoolfield, and daughter-in-law, Lynn. She is also survived by her 9 grandchildren 12 great-grandchildren, and 2 step great-grandchildren: Rob Silman, Ryan Silman, Kate Holliday, Jason Schoolfield, Cara Rolen, Jen DeGolyer, Brandon Elijah, Jeremy Elijah, Whitney James, Aidan Silman, Ryder Silman, Eva Silman, Emma Silman, Nora Holliday, Carter Schoolfield, Cameron Schoolfield, Cadence Schoolfield, Zach Rolen, Hannah Rolen, Hudson Quarles, Hunter Quarles, Tyler Rolen, and Jai DeGolyer. Lastly, she is survived by her life-long best friend and cousin, Barbara Johnson, and Barbara’s husband, Neal.

The family is immeasurably grateful to those who cared for Forest in her final years: Jennie, Dot, Buchi, Terrel, Jerry, Whittney, Clem, Donna, Misty, and Hal.

Forest will forever be remembered as strong-willed and spirited, hard-working and independent, loving and generous.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at 11:00am at Bellevue Memorial Gardens with Dr. Kevin Steele officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to National Hills Baptist Church, 2725 Washington Road, Augusta, Georgia 30909.
