Forrest A. Hutchinson

Augusta, GA – Forrest Alan Hutchinson went home to Jesus peacefully with his loved ones by his side on July 10, 2023. He was 89 years old.

Forrest was a deeply loving and spiritual man, considered wise, giving, and kind by all who knew him. His motto was to “love like Jesus loved.” In return, he was loved and admired by many and was an inspiration to others.

Forrest was married to the love of his life, Irene Robinson Hutchinson, for 59 years until her death in February of 2020.

Forrest was born to Jennie Elizabeth Langston and John Hamilton “Hammy” Hutchinson, Sr. on October 15, 1933, in Augusta, GA.

Forrest retired from the U.S. Army as a Master Sergeant in 1973. He served in the Vietnam War and was awarded six Good Conduct Medals, three Army Commendation Medals, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, the Bronze Star Medal, the Expert Badge (Rifle), and the Army of Occupation Medal (Germany).

He worked at the Georgia Department of Labor from 1973 to 1997 and retired after being appointed the manager of the Augusta Field Services Office.

Forrest is survived by his daughters, Jewel Weeks and Pamela Harden (Lee); his granddaughter, Darlene Rodgers (Lyle); his great-grandchildren, Brian Kent (Amanda); Rebecca Sumner (Ryan); and Sarah Kent, in addition to 11 other grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Forrest was one of six children. His brothers are John “JH” Hutchinson, Jr. (deceased), Robert Eugene Hutchinson (deceased), and Randy Allen Hutchinson. His sisters are Brenda McKenzie, and Deborah Carpenter.

The family will receive family and friends on Friday, July 14th between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Thomas Poteet & Son located at 214 David Rd., Augusta, GA 30907. Services will be on July 15 at 11 a.m. at Southern Pines Baptist Church, 4289 Southern Pines Dr., Evans, GA 30809. Interment to follow at Bellevue Memorial Gardens, 4051 Wrightsboro Rd., Grovetown, GA 30813.

Pastor Michael Cope will officiate. Pall bearers are Brian Kent; Scott Weeks; Michael Hutchinson, Jr.; Lee Harden; Ryan Sumner; and Gary Sumner. Honorary pall bearers are David Hutchinson, John “Jackie” Hutchinson, and Luke Sumner.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the church Forrest was a devoted member of, Southern Pines Baptist Church.
