Forrest Mallory Hensley, Sr.
Augusta, GA – Forrest Mallory Hensley, Sr., beloved husband of Susan Strain Hensley, entered into rest on Saturday, December 26, 2015 at home. He was surrounded by his loving family at the time of his passing.
The funeral service will be at Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, December 28, 2015. The family will welcome friends in the church foyer following the service. A private burial will be held at Westover Memorial Park after the service. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Augusta Golf Association and they should gather at the church by 10:45.
Forrest was born in Augusta, Georgia on September 6, 1938 to the late Bonita Bain Hensley and the late Roy Forrest Hensley. He graduated from The Academy of Richmond County and attended Augusta State University his freshmen year and then transferred to the University of Georgia where he graduated with a BA degree in Political Science. He was a member of Chi Phi Fraternity where he served as an officer. After graduation, he attended the Atlanta Law School and graduated with a Degree in Law.
While at UGA, Forrest met and married his wife, Susan Harlan Strain of Atlanta, Georgia. Forrest and Susan have enjoyed 56 years of marriage while sharing a great love for each other and their children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, extended family and friends.
In addition to his wife, Susan, he is survived by his children: Kelly Farmer and husband, Steve; Kimberly Franklin and husband, Peter; and Forrest Hensley, Jr. and wife, Kathy. Grandchildren, Dr. Matthew Farmer and wife, Laura; Mallory Click and husband, Josh; Peter Franklin III, and fiancée Lindsey Mintz; Corporal Christopher Franklin, Colden Franklin, Tally Reams, Stephen Reams and great grandchildren; Riley Farmer, Scottie Farmer and Jackson Click. He is also survived by his sisters: Bonnie Brooks and husband James, Pamela Long, Susan Norvell, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Forrest and his father owned Hensley Realty Company in Augusta for many years where he worked as a real estate broker. He entered the lumber business working for Georgia Pacific in the Redwood Department, and was a lumber broker for Forest Sales Corporation and Heritage Wholesale for many years. He served on the Board of Westminster School when his children attended the school. He was a member of the Georgia Bulldog Club, The Augusta Golf Association where he served as past President, the Augusta Country Club where he served on The Board of Governors, of Jones Creek Golf Club and of Romeos (Retired Old Men Eating Out).
He was a member of Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church and a former member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church where he served on the Administrative Board.
He was a passionate golfer and very loyal Bulldog fan but his greatest loves were his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, family and friends.
