Augusta GA- Frances Costa Conlon, 90, entered into rest April 14, 2018. Mrs. Conlon was preceded in death by her husband, William Owens Conlon and sister, Theresa Costa Kearns.
The family will receive friends Monday, April 16, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
A Georgia native, Mrs. Conlon was born in Athens on August 31, 1927 and had strong ties to this area through the family businesses (Costa Ice Cream, Dairy and Bottling). Mrs. Conlon followed her interest in fashion and textiles as a student of New York’s Pratt Institute, which she attended during wartime. In 1950, she met her husband to be, Marine Drill Instructor William Conlon, and they wed in Athens at St. Joseph’s Cathedral a year later. After moving to Augusta, the family began to grow, as the couple eagerly welcomed daughter Carol Ann and son James Phillip.
Mrs. Conlon maintained a love for style and beauty throughout her life, and partnered in creating apparel, accessories and home accents, sold in local boutiques. She also enjoyed travel, reading and Bible study, and was always a source of family history, lore, and anecdotes. Her lifelong friendships with her sewing club members and bridge groups helped sustain her after the loss of her husband in 2008, and her family is grateful for the support of all those who stood by her in loving care.
She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence C. Costa of Athens, GA. Mrs. Conlon is survived by sister Loretta Costa, CSJ of St. Louis, MO, brother Jerome Costa of Sautee, GA, daughter: Carol Ann Dozier of Appling, GA, son James Phillip Conlon (Susan) of Greensboro, NC, and three granddaughters; Jessica Paulos (Angelo) of Martinez GA, Erin Doty (Jaron) of Bradenton FL, and Julia Conlon of Raleigh NC. She was also blessed with five great grandsons, Landon and Braxton Paulos and Faolan, Edward and Terran Doty, great granddaughter Zara Doty and nieces Pat Hutchinson (Jim) and Retta Melton (Joe) and nephews Sonny Conlon and Larry Kearns (June).
Her grace, gentility and keen interest in the world around her will be missed by her family and friends.
