Augusta, GA - Frances S Lindley passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 25, 2021 surrounded by her family.
She is preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Dr. Jack B. Lindley. She is survived by her five children: Frank Stanaland Lindley (Linda), Jonathan Owen Lindley (JiYong), Jennifer Lindley Capers, Janice Lindley Knox (Clyde), and Laura Lindley Brown (Michael). Grandchildren: Jack Boone Lindley (Emily), Adam Nicholas Lindley (Jenn), Claire Lindley Knox, Wendi Knox, Bo Knox (Katie), Lindley Grace Brown, Sarah Capers Grooms (Brian), Stewart Capers, and Mary Carolyn Capers Roberts (JD) and Mr. Beasley, her constant four legged companion.
Frances was born in Sparks, Georgia, November 27, 1924. She was the daughter of the late Rev. and Mrs. J. O. Stanaland. As a Methodist minister’s daughter, she grew up all over South Georgia in the different parsonages and churches where her daddy served. Frances graduated from Wesleyan College in 1946 and began her lifelong career as an educator.
Frances was a pioneer in the field of special education in the late 1960s. She founded and directed the first private school in Augusta dedicated strictly to serving students with specific learning disabilities. The Augusta Reading Foundation helped many students reach their full learning potential and gave them hope for their future.
The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice, Dr. Danny Newman and countless friends for their love and support throughout her brief illness. Services will be conducted 11 AM on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at Trinity-On-The-Hill United Methodist Church, 1330 Monte Sano Avenue, Augusta, Georgia. Interment will follow at Westover. Honorary Pallbearers will be Frank Lindley, Jon Lindley, Michael Brown, Jack Lindley, Adam Lindley and Stewart Capers.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Trinity-on-the-Hill Music Ministry. The family will greet friends thirty minutes prior to service in the gathering space behind the sanctuary.
