Augusta, GA – Francis Ivins Doyle, 82, entered into rest Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at his residence. He was the husband of 50 years to Elizabeth Dorr Doyle.
He was a native, lifelong resident of Augusta, Ga. He graduated from Sacred Heart Grammar School, Boy’s Catholic High School, the University of Georgia with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Augusta State University with a Masters in Business Administration. He served in the United States Navy on the U.S.S. Antietam. He worked at WBIA radio station as a writer. After 30 years of service, he retired from the Medical College of Georgia as a Grants and Contracts Officer.
He was a member and daily communicant at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church. He was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Irish American Heritage Society, where he served as Grand Marshall for 2007. He was a member of Forest Hills Golf Club.
He enjoyed Dixieland Jazz, playing the drums, playing golf, and trips to Tybee Island with his family.
Family members, in addition to his wife Betty, include daughter Angela Doyle Moore and husband Karl of Augusta, and daughter Margaret Doyle Harison and husband Cam of Evans; three grandchildren: Olivia McConnell Harison, Francis Karl Moore, and Margaret Elizabeth Moore; Brother-In-Law P. Ferris Dorr, Jr. (Carol) and Sister-In-Law Victoria Dorr Barnett.
He was preceded in death by his parents Edward Joseph Doyle and Mary Morris Doyle; brothers Edward Joseph Doyle, Jr., Richard Morris Doyle, Joseph Anthony Doyle and sister Martha Doyle Wright.
The Funeral Mass will be held at noon on Friday, October 28, 2011 at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church on Monte Sano Avenue. Paul Ferris Dorr III, Edward Nigh Dorr, Sean Kearns Burke, Joseph Sumner Wright, Jr., Joseph Sumner Wright III, and David Carroll Wright will serve as pallbearers.
Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Social Services, 811 12th St., Augusta, GA 30901 or to St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church, 1220 Monte Sano Avenue, Augusta, GA 30904.
