Francis P. “Frank” Meehan

Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Sunday, January 26, 2014, Mr. Francis P. “Frank” Meehan, 86, husband of the late Mrs. Virginia Ann Hunt Meehan.

Born March 11, 1927 in Holyoke, MA to the late Phillip and Veronica Stefanik Meehan, Frank grew up in South Hadley Falls, MA. He graduated from South Hadley High School where he was a four-year letterman in football, basketball and baseball. He had a brief tryout with the Chicago Cubs and continued his lifelong love of sports as a fan.

Frank was also a graduate of Suffolk University School of Law in Boston, MA and a US Army Veteran, having served in Korea. Frank married the love of his life, Virginia Hunt Meehan in 1956. They celebrated 52 years of marriage before her passing in November, 2008.

Frank and Virginia moved to Augusta, GA with their family in 1969 where he became the distribution manager for SH Kress. He remained in the area for the rest of his life. He took up golf, enjoying many Saturday mornings playing at West Lake with his favorite golf partner, Steve Goldberg. At heart, Frank was a family man. He loved nothing more than cooking Sunday meals for his kids and grandkids. Family gatherings on holidays and watching sporting events were his special joy.

He is survived by his children F.P. (Betty) Meehan, Linda (late David) Dickey, Kathy (Jon) McManus, Cindy (Jamie) Dukes, and Jodi (Dave) Durden. Eight grandchildren: Katie McManus (Bobby) Martin, Abby McManus, Ben (Lauren), Alyson and Phil Dukes, Michael Dickey, Ansley and Matt Durden and two great grandchildren, Ella Kate and Jakob Martin. He is also survived by his brother Gerald Meehan of Clifton Park, NY and his nephew, Michael Meehan and niece, Melanie Meehan Nelson.

Frank will also be missed by special friends, Steve and Marsha Goldberg, Jan and Patsy Puczkowski and Vickie Walters. A special thanks to the staff and residents at Elmcroft Assisted Living. Dad much enjoyed his time living there. The family also thanks Dr. Chris Gibbs and the staff of Select Specialty Hospital for their compassionate care of our father.
