Decatur, GA - On October 31, 2022, Frank Bohler Babbitt Sr. passed away. He was 89 years of age and preceded in death by his father: Earl L. Babbitt, Sr.; mother: Mary Bohler Babbitt, and sister: Mary “Molly” Babbitt Barnhart.
He and his identical twin brother were well known in the community riding their bikes all around town from Central Avenue to Downtown Augusta. They would enjoy local games at the YMCA and had many friends in the neighborhood. Their mischief was legendary and only outshined by their charm.
Frank attended Mt. St. Joseph School through 6th grade, Monte Sano School 7th grade, and graduated from The Academy of Richmond County in 1951. He was quarterback of the Musketeers football team, played varsity basketball, and was an outfielder for their Southeastern Regional Championship Baseball team.
He enlisted in the Naval Reserves in 1951, attending Boot Camp in Bainbridge, MD. He attended pipe fitter’s school in Norfolk, VA. In 1952 he was called to Active Duty during the Korean Conflict and assigned to the Navy Destroyer USS William R. Rush (DD-714) in the Mediterranean Sea and returned stateside in 1954 and remained on Ready Reserve.
After graduating from Southern Technical Institute in Georgia, he joined Mallory & Evans Mechanical Contractors in Atlanta, GA, and ended his lifelong career as their Senior Vice President at the age of 76. He also served as the president of SMACNA, the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning National Association for multiple years.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years: Lee Baston Babbitt; his children: Frank B. Babbitt Jr.(wife Christina), Leigh Ann Capozzoli (husband David) along with their 3 children (Nick, Bryan, and Jake). He is also survived by twin brother: Earl L. Babbitt, Jr. of Augusta, GA and siblings: Tiel Mullis & Larry Babbitt. He will be fondly remembered and woefully missed. We celebrate his life and unwavering love.
Services will be held graveside at Westover Memorial Park Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 3, 2022.
