Mr. Fred McDaniel
Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Monday, November 28, 2011, Mr. Fred McDaniel, 88, husband of Mrs. Ruth S. McDaniel.
Mr. McDaniel was a native of Appling, but was a life long resident of Augusta. He entered the U.S. Army at the age of 17, spent 4 1/2 years in European theatre, during WWII and fought in 7 major battles and was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service for his country. Following his service he began a career with the civil service at Fort Gordon as an automotive inspector for 34 years until retirement. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and farmer.
Family members in addition to his wife include: sons: Jimmy McDaniel and his wife Tillie, Billy McDaniel; daughter: Janice M. Partridge and her husband Billy; grandchildren: Angie (Michael) Sharp, Callie (Lee) Blackburn, Ben (Jennifer) McDaniel and Julie (John) Langston; 8 great grandchildren; sisters: Margaret Cheeley of Augusta, Gloria Ireland of Augusta, Peggy (Ray) McDonald of North Augusta; brother, Thomas E. McDaniel of MS.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2011 in the chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son at 1:00 P.M. with Rev. Jimmy Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Bellevue Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Tony, Steven and Ben McDaniel, Michael Sharp, Lowell Bartlett and Bert Cheshire.
