Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Monday, August 6, 2018, Mr. George Robert Murphy, 77, loving husband of 55 years to Judy Little Murphy.
Robert was born in Augusta, GA on September 19, 1940. He graduated from the University of Georgia in 1962. He practiced as a CPA for 56 years and 20 years with his son, John, as his partner at Murphy & Murphy, CPAs. He was a member of the AICPA and Georgia Society of CPAs.
He coached little league baseball for 10 years. Robert loved his family, the Braves baseball team, UGA football, and his horses.
He also hosted a combined reunion of ARC Alumni (for the years 1950-1961) for 13 years, 10 of which were held at his farm. Robert was a member of GaSCar, an Antique auto club and considered the members as family.
Family members, in addition to his wife, include his son: John Thomas Murphy (Vanessa); grandson: John Thomas Murphy, Jr.; granddaughter: Amanda Murphy; step-grandsons: Jared Shanahan and Jayce Shanahan; brother-in-law: Tom Little (Margaret); sister: Dot Peterson; and a number of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother: Roberta Morris Murphy; father: George Edward Murphy; daughter: Susan Murphy Hogland; grandson: Andrew N. Hogland; and brother: Ernest E. Murphy.
A graveside service will be Friday, August 10, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. in Westview Cemetery with Billy Peacock officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
