Gary Vincent Temples
Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Tuesday, September 18, 2018, Mr. Gary Vincent Temples, 77, loving husband of 56 years to Mrs. JoAnn Hunt Temples.
Gary was born in Pennsylvania, but was a lifetime resident of Augusta. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he retired from International Paper after 35 years. He was a self-taught investor and successful day trader. Gary was a voracious reader and possessed a broad, deep understanding of history, politics, economics, science, and sports. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting for and collecting Native American artifacts. Gary was an avid sports fan, especially the Georgia Bulldogs, the Atlanta Braves, and The Masters. He enjoyed shrimping with his wife at Edisto Beach and bass fishing with his friends at the lake. Known affectionately as Poppy, he was a loving and generous husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend to all that knew him. He will be deeply missed.
Family members, in addition to his wife, include his daughter: April Tara Temples Sasser (Randy); son: Gary Vincent “Vince” Temples II (Chris) of Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren: Charlotte Sasser, Trey Temples, Will Temples, Kella Temples and many other loving family members. He was preceded in death by his daughter: Tiffany Lea Temples; parents: James Lawrence Temples and Beatrice Cross Clickner; and brother: LTCDR James L. “Jim” Temples, U.S. Navy (Ret.)
Funeral services will be Friday, September 21, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church with The Reverend James T. Said officiating. Burial will follow at Westover Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Floyd Hendrix, Bill Bailey, William Davis, Ethan Andrews, Tim Gaffney, and Tripp Bowden.
