Augusta, GA – Entered into rest June 13, 2015, Mr. George Byron Hawkins, Jr., age 89.
Mr. Hawkins was a native of Hampton, GA but has lived in Augusta since 1956. He served with the Merchant Marines during World War II. He was drafted from the US Army Reserve into Active Duty from 1950-1953. He was a good Christian man and was active in Curtis Baptist Church. He was always willing to help anyone, including delivering meals to the needy. Mr. Hawkins loved his children and grandchildren. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and he loved the outdoors and gardening.
Family members include children: Dana Hawkins Ducey and husband Rick, George Byron Hawkins III and husband Barry, Richard Carmichael Hawkins; grandchildren: Lauren Ducey Sanderlin and husband Jes, Zachary Reid Ducey and wife Kristen and Ryan Anthony Hawkins; and soon to be great-grandson: Sawyer Steele Sanderlin.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Sherrell Dunn officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to Curtis Baptist Church: 1326 Broad Street, Augusta, GA 30901.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
