Gerald Baker
Augusta, GA – Sergeant Major (Retired, U.S. Army) Charles Gerald Baker, 79, went home to be with the good Lord on Friday, February 5, 2021; he is loving husband of 59 years to Myrna K. Baker.
Gerald was a native of Pitt County, North Carolina and was drafted into the United States Army at the age of 19 serving in Thailand during the Vietnam Campaign, 3 tours in Korea and 2 tours in Germany as well as numerous duty stations stateside. Following retirement after 24 years of active duty service, Gerald began another 20 year career with Civil Service at Fort Gordon working in the Office Chief of Signal.
Family members, in addition to his wife Myrna K. Baker, his high school sweetheart; his children include his sons: Charles “Gerald” Baker, Jr. (Kimberley), the late Roy Baker, George Curtis Baker (Jessica); daughters: April Mock (Johnny) and Mary Frances Baker; grandchildren: Shayne Baker, Devon Baker, Jonathon Baker, Joshua Baker, Cherie Hurt, Danielle Baker, Charles Baker, David Baker, Jeremiah Baker, and Alan Weaver; and 9 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Warren Baptist Church with Dr. David McKinley officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial, with full military honors, is planned for at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
