Gerald J. Smith, PhD
Evans, GA – Entered into rest November 26, 2012, Rev. Gerald Judson Smith, PhD, 71, husband of Rebecca W. Smith.
Mr. Smith was a native of Marshallville, GA and was a resident of Columbia County since 1977. He was a graduate of Andrew College, received a bachelor’s degree in History at LaGrange College, a Masters degree in Divinity at Emory University, and also a PhD in English Literature at University of Georgia. He was a retired Methodist Minister and also retired from Paine College Chair of Humanities Division from 1977-2001. Mr. Smith was an author and lecturer.
Family members in addition to his wife include son: Gerald Judson Smith, Jr. and wife Ginger; daughter: Alicia Joy Smith; brother: Milton Smith and wife Doris; sisters: Sybil Brown and husband George, Sheryl McDaniel and husband William; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 29, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Jerry Poole officiating. Entombment will follow in Bellevue Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 1190 Interstate Parkway, Augusta, GA 30909 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
