Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Wednesday, June 5, 2013, Mr. Gerard “Ward” E. McKnight, 76, husband of 50 years to the late Mrs. Darlene M. McKnight.

Mr. McKnight was a member of Advent Lutheran Church. He retired as a Master Sergeant for the United States Army after 22 ½ years of service. Mr. McKnight served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was a Mason and a member of the VFW. Mr. McKnight was a poll manager for the Columbia County Board of Elections and worked for the Interfaith Hospitality Network. He was a helpful friend to everyone and a loving father and grandfather.

Family members include daughters and sons-in-law: Robin M. and Billy Jackson, Mellode M. and the late Glenn Lines and Dawn M. and Michael Meggs; grandchildren: Brittany J. Rachels (Eric), Brooke J. McLeod (Thomas), Lisa L. Smith, Ashleigh Lines, Matthew Mazur, Meagan M. Johnson (Luke), Katie Meggs, Micah Meggs, and Jacob Meggs; great grandchildren: Kinley E. Johnson and Jakob Smith; sister: Betty Johnson; and brother: the late Carroll Grant McKnight.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 8, 2013 at 4:00 P.M. at Advent Lutheran Church with Pastor David Hunter officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society at 2607 Commons Blvd, Augusta, GA 30909 or to Advent Lutheran Church at 3232 Washington Road, Augusta, GA 30907.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 3:00 P.M. at the church.
