Gilbert (Gil) John Nedwick, 84, passed away peacefully, on August 9th, 2024 in Augusta, Georgia.
Gil was born on July 25th, 1940, in Chicago, Illinois, to parents, John and Alice Nedwick. He attended Saint Peter and Paul Catholic grade school and graduated from Blue Island High School in Illinois. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Education, attending Perdue University and Ball State Teachers College in Indiana. Gil also received his Master’s Degree from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.
In 1962, Gil married his high school sweetheart, JoAnn, and together they raised a family he loved dearly.
Gil went on to have a successful career in education as he held positions of teacher, coach, counselor, dean, and school principal.
In 1970, he purchased a marina and moved to Whitewater Lake, Wisconsin, where he worked in the summer months. During the school year, he worked for the school district of West Allis, Wisconsin as the Dean of students and Junior High principal.
In 1978, Gil and his family left the cold winters of Wisconsin and moved to Fort Myers, Florida. In Florida, he worked as a middle school counselor and principal for the school district of Lee County until retirement.
Gil’s favorite pastime was fishing on Florida’s warm water, as he also enjoyed nature and peaceful walks on the beach. Most of all, Gil enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. His family remembers him for his undeniable strength, deep affection, and good virtue.
Gil is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, JoAnn, alongside the following: Son John (Daughter In-Law Christen) Daughter Nancy (Son In-Law Todd) Sisters In-Law, Arlene, Sherry, and Susan Brothers In-Law, Pierre, John, and Roger Cousin Melvin (Diane) Grandchildren Zackary (Married to Chelsea), Tatum, Tiffany, Taylor, Jameson, Jaxon and Kelsey
He will be laid to rest on September 7th, 2024 in St. Casimir Catholic Cemetery in Chicago, Illinois.
