Gladys L. Williams
Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Friday, June 4, 2010 at her residence after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Gladys Williams excelled at what she loved; psychiatric social work and was on the Board of National Social Work Association. She graduated from Judson College in Marion, AL, from Louisiana State University with three degrees and another degree from Tulane University. She was an Assistant Professor at the Medical College of Georgia in the Department of Psychiatry for 29 years. During her lunch breaks Gladys played bridge with the “Lunch Bridge Partners” who were all members of Department of Psychiatry at MCG. She loved the LSU Tigers, the Georgia Bulldogs and her cats.
Family members include: Uncle, Joe Sanders of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee; cousins, Betty Sue Anderson of Tampa, Florida; Gene Williams of Hendersonville, North Carolina; Sanders Anderson of St. Petersburg, Florida; Kenneth Anderson of Panama City, Florida. In addition to family members devoted friend Alice Redmon. Gladys and Alice were friends for over 30 years that began while both worked at MCG. Over the last 20 years Gladys and Alice were roommates, travel companions and best friends who traveled the south east attending football games. Alice became the primary caregiver of Gladys as her Alzheimer’s disease progressed.
The family wishes to thank the many hands and hearts that cared for Gladys Williams, Dr. Albert Carr and his staff, especially Jennifer and Shibon, Trinity Home Health Care and Hospice. Many thanks also to Sadie Sturgis and Pam Mance.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 7, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at Thomas Poteet and Son Chapel with Rev. Ed Rees officiating. Visitation will be Monday, June 7, 2010 at 10:00 A.M before the service. Interment will be at Notasulga, AL.
