Gloria Bullard

Gloria Swann Bullard was born April 26, 1935, in Cuthbert, Ga.  She passed away peacefully on February 15, 2024.  She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 66 years, James Roger Bullard M.D., her daughters Paige Bullard-Johnson and Barbara Bullard Hawkins (Jeff), granddaughter Sophie Bullard-Guerrero, and grandson William Henry Hawkins. Gloria was predeceased by her father, Aubrey Norton Swann, mother Sally Trotman Swann, and her eldest daughter, Jaye Bullard Greene.  

Gloria and Roger’s love story began in her hometown of Cuthbert in southwest Georgia while Roger was fulfilling his residency at Patterson Hospital and Gloria had recently graduated from Georgia College for Women in Milledgeville. After marrying, Augusta became their new home where Gloria began her teaching career at Martha Lester Elementary School.  From there, a life in the military took the couple away from their home in Georgia where they embraced all that came their way. They loved camping, boating, and traveling and included their daughters and grandchildren in all of their adventures. 

Gloria was creative, artistic, and enjoyed painting and writing.  Her love of family and celebrations, along with her wonderful sense of humor, has left us all with many cherished memories. She was the epitome of a strong, charming Southern woman who loved her family dearly. She will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her and her beautiful spirit.

We will celebrate Gloria’s remarkable life on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at 11:00 a.m., as she wished, with a graveside service at Westover Memorial Park. We will recieve friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the cemetery.
