Gregory D. Webb fought hard through a brief illness and peacefully passed with his family by his side on January 16, 2025. Greg was born on April 8, 1958 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Clarence A. Webb, Jr. and Nannie Mae Denton Webb Lucas.
Greg is survived by his wife of 31 years, Vicki Johnson Webb and their children, Clare (Ashby) Bethune, Alex (Whitley) Webb, Mike (Jennifer) Hood, and Mollie J. Odum and nine grandchildren: William Hood, Matthew Hood, Brantley Odum, Law Odum, Savannah Kate Odum, Lane Odum, Jonathan Bethune, Samuel Bethune, and Shields Webb. Greg is also survived by his siblings: Cynthia (Steve) Collins, Lynn (Jim) Pickard, Sheila Gilley, Sandy Entrekin, and W. Hank Frost. Greg leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews along with neighbors who became family.
He was a dedicated employee of Southern Company at Plant Hatch and Plant Vogtle for 38 years. Greg was the one everyone called on to “Fix It.” When at work he made his 15,000+ steps a day earning him the nickname “Ricochet.”
At home, he was known as Mayor of Danielle Drive, always helping his neighbors, friends and family. He loved working in his yard and playing with his nine grandchildren. In his free time, he kept the road hot between Martinez, GA and Cherokee, NC and Columbia, TN. He also loved to play and watch golf.
Greg was a graduate of Columbia Central High School and attended the University of Tennessee. He was a proud Eagle Scout. Greg’s blood ran orange and white and he was the Head Couch Coach with Stacy Tallent as his assistant. He remained close through the years with friends from high school, college, work, golf, and in North Carolina.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, January 20, 2025 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Thomas Poteet and Son Funeral Directors at 214 Davis Road, Augusta, GA 30907. The family welcomes you to wear orange and white to give a final “Go Vols” for Greg.
