Mr. Gus R. Phillips

Evans, GA – Entered into rest Thursday, May 2, 2013, Gus R. Phillips, 95, husband of Dora S. Phillips.

Mr. Phillips was a native of Crossett, AK and moved to Augusta in 1966. He retired from Georgia Pacific in 1982 as the Personnel Director. He enjoyed his church and loved to garden. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren. Mr. Phillips was a soldier in the United States Army, having reached the rank of Major. He served his country during World War II in the European and Pacific theatres.

In addition to his wife, family members include daughters: Carol Wege and husband Bill of Hinesville, GA; Donna Kwiatkowski and husband Pete of Greensboro, NC; son: Billy Phillips and wife Beth of Summerville, SC; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister: Roenia Richardson; and two nieces and one nephew. He is preceded in death by his parents: William Augustus Phillips and Louvenia Rembert.

A memorial service will be held Monday, May 6, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Higgins officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 3185 Wheeler Road, Augusta, GA 30909.
