Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Sunday, January 15, 2017, Mr. Guy Smith Thomas Reid, 51, devoted father to his son, Matt Reid.
Guy graduated from Westside High School where he led the golf team there all four years. He graduated from the University of Georgia and was an intense bulldog fan. He was a PGA professional and then went on to be the Golf Club Pro at Goshen Plantation Golf Club, Augusta Municipal Golf Club “The Patch”, and at Belle Meade County Club. Guy coached golf for the EDS golf team and was the winning coach for all 5 years. He designed and started the Adaptive Golf Program with Walton Foundation.
His passion was helping those in need. He would help anyone he considered a friend and everyone was his friend. Guy was an amazing father and his son was the light of his life. He was a wonderful dad, son, brother, uncle, and friend to so many. His enthusiasm for life and love for sports will be remembered by all. He loved people, so people of all ages loved him.
Family members, in addition to his son, include his mother: Joan Reid; sister and brother: Kim Reid Arfman (Richard) and Jim Reid; nieces: Maggie and Katie Arfman; friend and mother of his child: Elaine Young. He is preceded in death by his father, James Madden Reid.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Larry Harmon officiating. Burial will follow in Westover Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Gary Grice, Will Salley, Charlie Bragg, Tom Horner, Jody Dowdy, Sean Hackett. Honorary pallbearers will be Matthew Turner, Nick Pullen, Austin and Justin Garrett.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Walton Rehab Adaptive Golf Program, 1355 Independence Dr., Augusta, GA 30901.
