AUGUSTA, GA. – Entered into rest Thursday, September 24, 2009, at her residence, Mrs. Gwenavere M. Schwiebert, 92, wife of the late Col. Ret. Harold M. Schwiebert .
Mrs. Schwiebert was a native of Columbia City, IN and resided in Augusta since 1953.
Over the years she worked with Welcome Wagon, the local Clean Community Commission and the YWCA. Her love of flowers and trees led her to the Garden Arts Garden Club and the Forest Acres Garden Club. She held multiple offices in both groups and was the last living charter member of the Forest Acres Garden Club (52 year member). Gwen was also involved with the Augusta Woman’s Club, the Officers’ Wives Club, the Fort Gordon Thrift Shop, PTA and several bridge clubs. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Augusta.
A diagnosis of Parkinson’s in 1990 never slowed her down. Medical professionals called her the Energizer Bunny. The family wishes to express a special thanks to caregivers, Dora Roberson and Debbie Kinsey, and friends: Eva Erwin and Polly Iwasko.
Family members include her daughters: Pamela K. Elrod and husband Rick of Augusta and Sandra Parker and husband Richard of Pell City, AL; sister: Frieda Fleck of Columbia City, IN; grandchildren: Jennifer Eichler, Scott Parker and wife Kathy, and Amber Elrod; and two great-grandchildren: Alex Fant and Parker Eichler.
Funeral services will be held Monday, September 28, 2009 at 11:30 A.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Dr. Jacob O. Malone officiating. Interment will follow at Westover Memorial Park.
