Harlie Cordeiro e Silva

Evans, GA – With great sadness we wish to inform you of the death of Harlie Cordeiro e Silva.

He died May 17, 2016 in Evans, GA at the age of 91. He was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; the son of Antonio and Leonice Cordeiro e Silva. His siblings, John, Gladys, Ione, Bobby, and Joyce, preceded him in death.
With courage and determination, he left his family, friends, and life as he knew it, to come to a new land, make new friends, and a new life. Harlie came to the United States to attend Indiana Tech where he earned degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautical Engineering. In New York City he met his future bride, Aurora. They had two children - Lorinda (Joseph) Fournier and Alan (Maria) Cordeiro; four grandchildren - Heather (Eric) Degrave, Erin (Gabe) Robertson, Kane (Melody) Bonnette, and Eva Fournier; and seven great grandchildren - Olivia and Max Degrave, Ellie, Abby, and Katie Robertson, and Michael and Eli Bonnette.
Harlie established the first diplomatic connection between Atlanta and Brazil as the Honorary Consul of Brazil. He was invited to The White House to have lunch with Rosalyn Carter. Always a Brazilian, Harlie was made an Honorary Citizen of the State of Georgia by Secretary of State Ben Fortson. He was a president of Friendship Force International. Gov. Lamar Alexander named Harlie a Tennessee Colonel. He contributed to the Fourth General Assembly of the Organization of American States. He developed a 30 minute program for WETV in Atlanta about ‘conditioning the air’ that became a series for schools. Harlie worked for Carrier Corporation as Southeast Territory Manager.
Harlie loved the game of Golf. He played until he was 85 years old and always carried or pulled his golf bag. He took his golf clubs on many of his travels. Harlie got to play golf at St. Andrew’s in Scotland. He had four hole-in-one’s. He loved the Master’s Tournament; watching it in person, watching it on TV, and reading the coverage in the Augusta Chronicle.
Harlie and Aurora were married 65 years. He made a point of showing his wife all 50 of the United States. They loved to tour around the world. They went traveling to Australia, Austria, Argentina, Aruba, Bahamas, Belgium, Bermuda, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, England, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Holland, Ireland, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Mexico, Morocco, New Zealand, Norway, Panama, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Russia, Scotland, Spain, St. Croix, St. Thomas, Sweden, Switzerland, Trinidad, Uruguay, and the Vatican.
He was a strict Father but loved his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren deeply. He taught the importance of letter writing, reading books, appreciating all forms of nature, photography, stamp collecting around the world, how to use tools, neatness and discipline, interest in world events, and PRIDE IN HERITAGE.
Internment will be private in Augusta, Georgia.
