To quote his Commanding officer in reference to the Squadron: “These men who at no time hesitated or stumbled or complained or criticized; who continually with their heart and soul, stamina and humor, and their very existence, performed a job which was neither of their asking nor their liking; a job which was difficult and at time loathsome; a job which demanded everything and which by all was well done… done far above and beyond what any individual could have expected.” After his time in the Philippines, Mr. Boardman was sent to Edenington, NC in 1945 and remained there until honorably discharged in 1947.

It was at this time that he and his partners built Goshen Plantation and Golf Course. In 1969, he moved to Hilton Head Island, SC and continued to develop properties in Sea Pines Plantation. Upon the death of his parents, he returned to Augusta, where he resided until his death.

In his retirement years, Mr. Boardman enjoyed traveling with his wife Carol throughout Europe, England, Scandinavia, cruising the Baltic Sea, the Caribbean and Mediterranean, Canada, and exploring the United States. His hobby was golfing with his friends in Augusta and North Carolina. He was a voracious reader.
