Harold O. Dye
Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Friday, June 28, 2013, Mr. Harold Otis Dye, 84, loving husband of 64 years to Betty Heath Dye.
Mr. Dye was a lifelong resident of Augusta. He was a member of the United States Naval Reserve, first worked for his family as a dairy farmer (Dye’s Dairy) on Flowing Wells Rd. and was later employed by Lilly Tulip Company. He then began a Phillips 66 service station in Daniel Village, one of the first businesses in Daniel Village. He later retired from DuPont after 37 years, and worked as a courier at Milton Ruben Chevrolet.
He was a member of Martinez United Methodist Church, the McDonald Bible Class, the Augusta Boating Club, and the George Walton Masonic Lodge.
Mr. Dye loved the outdoors, gardening, cooking, bird watching, fishing, and keeping his bees. When he was young, he was a lifeguard at the Flowing Wells Pool. He attended Sue Reynolds Elementary School and the Academy of Richmond County.
He loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and his family. He was selfless and kind hearted. Mr. Dye was a loving son, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend.
Mr. Dye was preceded in death by his parents: Paul H. Dye, Sr. and Effie Brown Dye; brothers: Paul H. Dye, Jr., Aubrey B. Dye, Vernon L. Dye; and sister: Grace Dye Tebow.
He is survived by his brother: William E. Dye of Atlanta, GA; sons: Paul H. Dye (Karen), Rodney H. Dye (Debra); daughter: Joan Dye Hauff (Tony); grandchildren: Paul H. Dye, IV (Beth), Nicholas M. Dye (Lael), Christopher L. Dye, Laura A. Carter (Reid), Eric A. Hauff, Mitchell D. Hauff; great grandchildren: Thomas A. Dye, David Dye, Lucy K. Dye, and Emily C. Dye.
The family would like to thank Dr. Mitchell Berger and Staff and University Hospital 10 West for their care and compassion.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 1, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at Martinez United Methodist Church with Rev. Perry Shelfer officiating. Burial will be in Westover Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be his grandsons Paul, Nicholas, Christopher, Eric, and Mitchell, sons Paul and Rodney, and son in law Tony. Honorary pallbearers will be fellow members of the George Walton Masonic Lodge and members of the Martinez United Methodist Men’s Club.
