Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Monday, March 7, 2022, Mr. Harry A. Shurley, Jr., 82, loving husband of Mrs. Marina Yeargain Shurley.
Harry was a native and life-long resident of Augusta. He attended Sacred Heart, Boys Catholic High and was a member of the first Aquinas High School graduating class. Harry enjoyed regaling, in what has long been acclaimed as the best high school football game in Augusta history. Harry and his underdog Boys Catholic teammates, under legendary coach Denny Leonard, battled eventual state champion Richmond Academy to a scoreless tie. The Thanksgiving Day contest of November 22, 1956 drew 6,000 fans to ARC stadium. Harry was also a graduate of the UGA School of Pharmacy. He owned and operated his own pharmacy, H & H Drug Store, for many years. After closing his drug store, Harry worked at a number of pharmacies before retiring completely from pharmacy. Harry devoted the next chapter of his career in service to others through nutritional counseling and his Shaklee products business. Harry’s little Shaklee shop, Natural Nutrients, was a place where he would minister to others, in true Christian form, in wanting people to live their best lives both physically and spiritually.
Family members in addition to his wife include his sons: Harry A. “Trey” Shurley, III (Julie), Jeffrey Yeargain (Cindy) and Ruskin Yeargain (Katy); grandchildren: Michael Shurley, Cameron Shurley and Christopher Shurley and Ethan Yeargain, Kate Yeargain and Daniel Yeargain and sister: the late Rosemary Heinbach.
The graveside service will be held Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 3:00 P.M. at Westover Memorial Park with Fr. Mark Ross officiating. Family will visit with friends following the service.
