Augusta - Entered into rest on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, Ms. Helen McVicker of the Augusta area, at the age of 81. She is survived by her daughter: Tammy Busby (Rick) of Augusta and son: James McVicker (Trina) of Oklahoma, five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; a brother: Harvey Morrison (Jacquie) of Massachusetts; sister: Faye Knight of Indiana and sister-in-law: Adiebelle Morrison. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews for whom she had great love. She also had several great nieces and nephews.
Helen retired as a Civil Budget Officer for the Department of the Army and she retired from the US Army Reserves as a Finance Captain with 15+ years of service. She received the Army Commanders Award for Civilian Service for her work as Budget Officer in charge of Operation Desert Storm. She also retired as owner of Leisure Time Properties, a real estate firm she operated for 25 years in Blue Ridge, Georgia. At one time, she received the highest seller award given by the Northeast Georgia Board of Realtors.
Helen’s final years were spent as Founder and President of a nonprofit, “When Help Can’t Wait”, donating to the residents of approximately 21 nursing homes across and beyond the CSRA. In 2023, the agency was 17 years old. She served as a volunteer and received no compensation for her work. She was awarded the Georgia Jefferson Award for outstanding public service in 2014 for her work.
The funeral service will be held in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Thurman Norville officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A graveside service will be Friday, October 25, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. in her home of Clarksville, Tennessee alongside her brothers and other members of her family, including her parents in Greenwood Cemetery 976 Greenwood Ave, Clarksville, TN 37040.
