Helen Antonopoulos Skinner
Augusta, GA – Mrs. Helen Antonopoulos Skinner died February 5, 2019, after a brief illness.
Born in Augusta, November 11, 1922. Mrs. Skinner would insist she was “only a homemaker”, but to those who knew her she was so much more. She was a mentor to her three children and a spokesman for less fortunate who needed help. She was known to area leaders for her efforts to bring situations to their attention and to newspaper editors for her suggestions for articles. She had inherited from her father her tremendous love of animals that carried her through her life. She was a member of Saint Mary on the Hill Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Edward B. Skinner, Jr.; parents, Nicholas X. And Elizabeth Britton Antonopoulos; sister, Muriel Bradley Dawson; brother, Julian Anthony of Atlanta; and many feline companions - especially her Tom.
Survivors include two daughters, Anna Rebecca Skinner and Mary Helen Skinner Lenz (Mike); a son, James V. Cook II (Kathy), all of Augusta; and nephew George L. Dawson (Camilla) of Macon, Georgia.
The family wants to convey a special thanks to Mrs. Linda Graham, caregiver and companion, for her wonderful compassion and friendship.
Services will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at 2:00 PM at the Chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Fr. Mark Ross officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 2:00 PM at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors, 214 Davis Road; Augusta, Georgia 30907.
