Augusta, Georgia – Helga E. Martin, 91, of Martinez, Georgia, passed away January 17, 2022, of complications from Covid pneumonia.
Born in May 1930 in Berlin, Germany, she survived World War II and then went to England to serve as a nurse before returning to Germany to work at the U.S. Army Finance Center in Berlin.
She immigrated to the United States in 1959 and soon began a nearly 30-year career as an accounting executive for Revlon, a major cosmetics company. She retired to the Augusta area in 1988.
Her favorite activities were traveling, reading, and crossword and other puzzles. Her trips took her to nearly 50 countries on five continents where she enjoyed learning about different cultures, people, history, and architecture. The Holland American Line was her choice for cruising. Her favorite fiction authors included David Baldacci and Daniel Silva.
Her husband, Alvin E. Martin, an Army veteran of World War II and Korea, predeceased her. She is survived by her son Peter and several grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life commemoration was held January 26th at TBONZ Steakhouse in Augusta.
