Henry Gaines

Augusta, GA – Mr. Henry Charles Gaines, 80, loving husband of Colleen McGill Gaines, entered into heavenly rest on Monday, March 27, 2023.

A native of Augusta, Georgia, Henry was a graduate of both the Academy of Richmond County and Augusta College before attending graduate school at the University of Georgia. Throughout his professional career, he served as clinical laboratory manager for several healthcare facilities, the longest of which was 22 years at Doctor’s Hospital. An avid horticulturist and master gardener, Henry enjoyed countless hours in his greenhouse caring for a wide variety of exotic plants. In his later years, he became a skilled painter focusing primarily on watercolors with his favorite subjects including botanicals and coastal scenes. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

Family members in addition to his wife include his sons: David C. Gaines (DeeDee), Scott Gaines (Jennifer), and Russell Gaines (Ladonna); sister: Lucy Ellen Gaines; and grandchildren: Cannon, Knox, Samuel, Eliana, Aryana, and Amelia Gaines.

The family will receive friends at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors from 10:00 until 10:45 A.M. on Thursday, March 30, 2023. A graveside service will follow at 11:00 A.M at Westover Memorial Park with Pastor Matthew Judd officiating.
