Augusta, GA – Herman Clyde McElveen, Jr was born in Raleigh, North Carolina on July 5, 1943 to Bessie Stephenson and the late Herman Clyde McElveen, Sr. Known to his friends as Mac, he graduated from Smithfield (NC) High School in 1961 and immediately joined the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1984 as a Master Sergeant (E7) at which time he moved to Adana, Turkey to be with his wife Vera (Vikki) Pruitt, who was stationed at Incirlik Air Base. From 1989 until his death, he worked as a civilian with the U.S. Navy in Mildenhall England, U.S. Air Force in Spangdahlem, Germany and the U.S. Army at Fort Gordon, GA.

While an active member in the Boy Scouts of America, Mac became an Eagle Scout in 1959. In later life, he became an active member of American Legion Post 0192. In addition, he was a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans.

Mac passed to eternal life on March 30, 2012 at Doctors Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Vera (Vikki) Pruitt; his mother, Mrs Bessie Stephenson McElveen; his son David McElveen (David Favret); his daughter Diane McElveen (Jim Keneipp); sister, MaryAnn (Tim) Bradshaw, brothers and sisters-in-laws, Carlos and Brenda Collazo and Allan and Estrella Pruitt; three grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services with full military honors will be held Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at Bellevue Memorial Gardens Chapel .Interment will follow at Bellevue Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends Monday evening, from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M.
